Came across this line in “The Meaning of Your Life” by Arthur C. Brooks:

“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

He suggests we should be able to say what we believe to be true without apology, even if it doesn’t match what we said yesterday.

Allowing ourselves to be consistently inconsistent… and to change with the truth… might be a lesson in itself.
