Amoako Boafo’s exhibit, “Proper Love,” is one of the most emotional artistic experiences I’ve ever had.

It’s obvious the portraits were painted, in part finger painted, by the loving hands of a black artist. The attention to detail in areas like hair texture, color contrast against skin, and overall composition were incredible.

“To See Is An Act of Love” by Yelvilaa Bodomo was the featured poem. I didn’t know I could feel so seen by a collection of portraits, loved by the images of normal people, inspired by great art to make art. I hope to share deeper thoughts on the exhibit in a few weeks.

The exhibit is at the Belvedere in Vienna. If you have the opportunity to see Boafo’s work, please do.
