Thinking of the mail-in ballot issue, does it strike anyone else as odd that as we transition into a low-trust society, government officials are demanding that we place more trust in them?

Seems to me that one thing that characterizes high-trust societies is that they are voluntarily and deliberately transparent; authorities do not demand trust, but rather cultivate it.
