What I do believe, is that if Trump is on a path to bring down our democracy, he knows that he needs to move fast. Trump cannot unfold a plan to assume authoritarian power slowly. He has to be quick or else get bogged down in the muck that makes our government move slowly. So, why 53 days? In 1933, Adolph Hitler became the Chancellor of Germany on January 30th. Just fifty-three days later, Germany’s democracy would be gone and their Constitution would be in tatters. Hitler would become a dictator quickly because he learned from his previous failures how to find the flaws in the Constitution that could be turned against itself.
