What he gains is not mastery, but foreknowledge. He comes to know Ragnarök—the collapse of the order he inhabits, and his own death within it. His wisdom does not open the world; it confirms its limits. He sees further than any other being, yet what he sees cannot save him. In this, Odin becomes something more than a god of knowledge.
