three and a half years ago, I wrote a proposal for a cookbook called “what to cook when you don’t feel like cooking” and got rejected by every major (and not-major…) publisher because I “didn’t have enough social reach”.
a year later, I launched the same concept as a paid substack.
today, I hit 20k paid subscribers. and in three weeks, my cookbook comes out.
writing on substack has completely changed my life and the trajectory of my career. I love being a part of this community and helping new substackers find their footing.
that’s why i’m an open book about my successes and failures here. someone was interviewing me for a piece recently and asked if I was comfortable sharing how many paid subscribers I have. of course I am: how else can budding writers see their potential here? people (women) are so hesitant to share success, but I find other people’s success so empowering.
i’m pumped. 20k feels big. I've been working towards it, optimizing, making changes, incorporating feedback, and working with different substack teams to gain insights on how I can continue to grow for months (well, years, really).
it’s a big milestone, and to celebrate, i’d love to open up a thread here…
drop me a question! ask me anything. i’ll reply to all of them, but if you’re reading this and you have a thought, please feel free to get in there with your own responses and ideas. i’m no expert, i just keep trying new things and some of them have worked!! would love to help however I can.
