India's cyber crime agency gave GitHub three hours to take down BitChat, the Bluetooth mesh app students were using at the Delhi exam protests after the government cut mobile internet around Jantar Mantar. The official worry is that people can talk during a shutdown. That is the entire point of the app. You can delete a repo, but not the copies already forked and installed on phones. A state that cuts the internet and then erases the tools people use to route around it is telling you what the shutdown was for.
