Anthropic said on Thursday that business customers can keep its required 30 days of data on their own cloud instead of Anthropic's. A day earlier OpenAI promised enterprise customers it will keep none of their prompts or answers. That 30-day rule, brought in June, overrode contracts promising zero retention, with no opt-out. So the 30 days was always a product decision, and it moved when a rival made zero retention a selling point. Get the retention terms into your contract, because a help page can be edited.
