In franchise cricket it's easier, I don't think England didn't know he wouldn't work further up the order, it's just that all their top 6 other than Morgan needs to be up the order. At a certain point you can't just promote everyone. If Malan is dropped, my guess is that Stokes or Moeen goes to three. But with that in mind, it makes more sense for Stokes to go to three, as Moeen's game probably suits batting 5 or 6 more. So I think that is where there problem is. To be honest, England have used him far better than RCB used to.
