Um, it has already happened. And not just recently either, NZ and WI cricketers have chosen club over country since the 1920s. The only real difference is clubs weren't making much money before, and now they are. But see Kolpaks, Lancashire Leagues, and even rich dudes like Julian Cahn just buying players. Garfield Sobers had to be talked out of playing league cricket over playing for the West Indies. Good players have retired just to get better T20 gigs. And the IPL has barely started. We really only need one other league to hit, or the IPL to really expand and players are going to choose to pay their mortages over anything else.
