etymology fun fact: agony comes from a greek word (agōn) meaning an assembly of people gathered to watch wrestlers, which shifted to mean in itself a contest, then eventually any struggle.
I like this idea: the crowds, the sun, the sand, the two opposing wrestlers; an agony of the soul.
