Texas Court orders PFLAG to turn over records to AG Paxton
“Paxton argued that his office needed access to correspondence between PFLAG and parents of transgender youth seeking care despite the ban. He said the information could help identify doctors to whom families were being referred and determine whether those providers violated state law or committed insurance fraud by prescribing treatments under other medical diagnoses.”
Texas already has some of the most dangerous and draconian laws that affect not only transgender, non-binary and non gender conforming people, but actively seeks to criminalize and harm healthcare providers with laws that will end their right to work.
Not everyone can relocate to other states or countries where laws not only protect their rights as transgender people but seek to create pathways to live as their authentic selves.
States like Idaho are now criminalizing transgender people for using the bathroom that aligns with their identity with as a felony charge with up to a five year imprisonment.
With the passing of this new law in Idaho, it may just be a matter of time before Texas revisits an earlier bill to criminalize people for just being transgender.
