The DOE opened an investigation into Smith College, one of the Seven Sister colleges and is a private institution that’s does accept government funding for admitting transgender women in an All Women’s College.
Fact: Transgender Women are Women
The college has had been admitting transgender women since 2015. This shouldn’t change
Fact: Smith College does rely on government funding, but not to the extent of public universities. Most of the funding is for financial aid programs and specific research projects, rather than from direct revenue from tuitions.
Pell grants and federal student aid programs make up the majority of the aid to 69% of the undergraduate students for the past decade.
Though, it will not be easy, a possible solution is to no longer accept any government funding directly through the college and have students apply for financial assistance in other ways. (Not ideal, I know).
Save the School, Save the Girl.
What it comes down to is that Trump will use any means in order to pursue his erroneous claims of a binary because of sheer ignorance and hate.
Part of protecting transgender people is protecting their right to education which helps themselves and a nation to be prosperous and competitive in the world market.
“The college says it "is a women's college and considers for admission any applicants who self-identify as women; cis, trans, and nonbinary women are eligible to apply to Smith."”

The consequences of losing this battle will not only change the policies regarding admissions, but can effectively be used to block transgender students from any and all educational institutions.
