I finished the letter of James in my Greek New Testament this morning!
After I graduated with my MDiv in December of 2022, I really wanted to continue growing in my Greek and sadly found that the habit didn't stick at all.
In 2023, other than heavily dependent sermon study I didn't do much at all. My knowledge waned.
Then, in 2024, I audited two Greek classes to intentionally refresh. One in the spring and one in the fall. I also have been subscribed to the vocabulary system of the Biblical Mastery Academy online for many months now to try to grow further.
At this point I have been reading a little bit from my GNT nearly every morning for at least six months now, which was the original goal. I'm hoping to one day complete the whole of it, currently I've got 15/27 books done.
I'm still definitely beholden to a “Reader’s Edition” at times that footnotes words that aren't used as commonly as my vocabulary has a ways to go. I definitely haven't arrived yet.
Nevertheless I am thankful for the Lord's grace in my life. If you would have told me that my Greek was going to be just about as good 4-4.5 years after I first finished my courses I would have called you crazy.
I remember being stressed out of my mind learning participles and the paradigm charts and last I checked I can do them from memory at this point just as good as I could when it was fresh.
I'm no scholar, but reading the words that were penned in another language is such a cool experience that I am incredibly grateful for.
