I don’t often post about politics.
The great irony of social media is that services like Twitter and Facebook - and yes, now Substack - were once the ideal venues for jokes about politics. But they have now conditioned their users to get so upset over anything that even mildly offends them that they will threaten the author’s lives and livelihoods.
The Internet has become a daycare center full of toddlers who would rather dump their lunch on the floor in a temper tantrum than eat their beets.
And so I will stay positive about the news of the day, and say I’d like to congratulate the current administration on winning the war against Iran that we are also still fighting.
They say that a good compromise is when both sides are dissatisfied.
So congratulations first go out to the team of civilian and military leaders, as well as our crack diplomatic corps, who gave us a way to win that also makes it look like we’d actually lost.
Indeed, the decision to send one thousand more troops into the Middle East certainly can’t be interpreted as anything other than an attempt to make sure that, now that we’ve won, we end this conflict as quickly as possible.
What a triumph of diplomacy and public relations that we are even now dictating our terms of peace in a way that looks like we’re surrendering to the Ayatollah. I can honestly say that no Democratic President in modern history even dreamed of such a cunning mix of military strength and humiliating optics.
Also, we have covered glory on everyone involved by openly assassinating the religious and political leader of Iran. Certainly that will never come back to haunt us.
