Am I the only person who does not have a “gender identity”?
Apparently, everyone has a gender identity, “cisgender” or not. I do not feel that I do. I do not have a deep internal sense of being a woman, I just am a woman. What I do have is a deep internal sense of being myself: being WSES, with all my quirks, complexities, personality, hobbies, and culture.
I do not experience a distinct inner feeling of “being a woman”; I simply know that I am one. I do, however, have thoughts and feelings about the roles and expectations placed on me because I’m female, but I think many women do. I would describe that as self-reflection or introspection, a critical perspective on gender.
Having feelings, opinions, or frustrations about how society treats you based on your sex seems like a normal human experience. To me, that does not mean that sex is mutable, or that a person can think or identify themselves out of it.
