The nickname "Music City" for Nashville originated in 1873 when Queen Victoria heard the Fisk Jubilee Singers perform. After being moved to tears by their performance of spirituals, she remarked that they must come from a "musical city" or "Music City of the United States". The Fisk Jubilee Singers, a group of students from the historically Black Fisk University in Nashville, toured to raise funds for their school.
Today is day 8 without power in our Nashville home, I’m fortunate enough to be in an Airbnb with my family in the neighborhood where the Fisk University is, learning about the rich history of the community and their beautiful music.
