Students in Somaliland are calling for Israel's history to be taught in schools, saying the Jewish state's historic recognition of their homeland has inspired them to learn more about Israel and its leaders.

"We need to know more aboutNetanyahu's history because he brought us recognition," one student said.

In December 2025, Israel became the first and so far only UN member state to officially recognize Somaliland as an independent country, a move celebrated across the territory after more than three decades of seeking international recognition.
