On Christmas night, while I was still on call, I went to pick up a prepaid Grubhub order at Red Lobster—money accepted, transaction complete—and I left escorted out by police without the food and without a documented refund in the moment.
If you’re tempted to hear that as “customer service drama,” pause. Because in any normal world, once a business takes your money, the exchange is not a favor. It’s an obligation.
What happened wasn’t just denial. It was escalation. It was the decision to treat me as if the basic rules didn’t bind them, and to treat calling the police like an ordinary solution to an ordinary transaction.
That is not about seafood. That is about public legitimacy—who gets treated as enforceable, and who gets treated as disposable.
