Medium's algorithm got hacked, but Medium doesn’t care...
Medium recently started recommending a lot of fake accounts: - all of them created from May
all of them writing humanised AI generated stories, the type Medium wants for boost now.
all have names and story titles written in sentence case
most of them recommended in the Medium feeds
One is “remi”.
They have huge following and engagement, one that’s not achievable for just few months, even with a boost.
My guess: all automated.
They rank much better in Medium recommendations pushing away genuine writers.
All of those accounts are not in the Partner Program, so Medium doesn’t have to pay for their engagement.
I wrote a story about it on Medium tagging CEO Tony Stubblebine.
Medium PR Amy answered they are aware and they find those accounts authentic!!! They see them as TikTok users who just use Medium differently…
How can thousands of "authentic" accounts start using Medium in the exact same way, at the exact same time, all of them looking so much alike and writing in the exact same style with all names and titles in sentence case??!!
Why does Medium now recommend humanized AI-generated content via the standard distribution?
Why does Medium now recommend stories that are not behind the paywall? Isn't that working against Medium's interest to gain more paid subscribers?
Or just Medium now tries to reach profitability without caring too much about the HOWs...
I don't care about the existence of these accounts, but I do care that they are in the General Distribution taking over whole topics like "Writing", pushing away real, genuine, authentic writers...
The fact that Medium finds gaining hundreds of thousands of followers and engagement of that magnitude to be GENUINE while revoking from MPP real writers with just a few hundred followers for reading and commenting on a bunch of stories a day from the same favorite writers, without any chance to get reinstated, and without paying what they've earned with hard work is simply shocking!
I don’t feel good being on Medium anymore….
