A rare read discussing AI education in China without falling into the US-China AI literacy/talent race or some kind of equivalent crazy framework.
I am equally pessimistic about AI helping achieve education equality. If anything, it will become harder for rural kids to catch up. Gaokao can add tons of AI-related questions, and universities can reserve more seats for students who shine in coding camps. Both can be done very quickly, while having the proper infrastructure (internet, computers, AI-literate teachers, etc.) for AI to become really helpful in rural areas may take much much longer.
