I took Chantix when it was new. I had 2 episodes where I suddenly had the urge to 1 crash into a tree driving home and 2 I was in the shower and suddenly thought I need to jump out my window. I called my doctor and told him I was stopping the medication immediately. I didn’t know enough to report it as a side effect. It stayed on the market for years until it was finally pulled.
I’m glad I knew the thoughts were not my own & must be related to the medication. What good is quitting smoking if you’re dead by suicide?!

Doctors don’t know what pharmacists know. I am on a drug similar to Wygovy (compounded). Not experiencing side effects in the 2+ months I’ve been using. It enables me to make better choices. No cravings. The Ozempic has been on the market for diabetes for about 10 years. I would definitely discontinue if I had those scary thoughts and impulses I experienced with Chantix. Scary stuff.
Your dopamine levels are lower on Chantix than when smoking. Lower dopamine increases suicidality. Smoking masks the irritable impulsivity of the smoker. When smokers stop smoking the irritable impulsivity is no longer masked. That's why it seems to the smoker as if smoking is addictive.

I believe it has to do with the neurons and synapses in your brain misfiring- I have always believed this. That’s why coming off them had to be carefully done and tapered off. If you abruptly stop these dangerous drugs- your brain goes haywire in many people.
