Not that this cannot happen in a natural infection but that occurs at a barrier where the immune system has many ways of signaling and fighting pathogens without that risk increasing significantly. The cells of the lungs regenerate quite quickly and the immune system does not rely on antigen specific antibodies. An intramuscular injection into the blood which is an mRNA transfection generates heaps of antibodies ( they call that effective) but in reality they don't go to the lungs where they are needed and they don't trigger the appropriate balanced immunological cascade. The more immunology you read, the more you realize how bad this was. It makes this impossible to believe it was merely a mistake.
