Yes, definitely, the FBI is horrible and needs to go! Along with all the other shit they've done, there was a case here in Arkansas in 1987, when 2 boys were run over by a train. After an attemped cover-up, it became obvious that their bodies had been placed there after they were killed for having witnessed a drug drop out of Mena. If you don't know, it was common knowledge that Bill Clinton and his buddies used the airport there for their drug running. When the FBI got involved in the case, they covered up any evidence that would have confirmed that's what happened. The lead investigator, who was a high school friend of my husband, retired early, probably because of his guilty conscience. The families of those boys have never gotten justice, thanks to the rotten FBI.

The FBI is no different from any other "Gestapo"-style state security apparatus masquerading as a noble, virtuous "law enforcement agency".
As a kid, I prized books like "The True Story of the FBI"; I'm not sure that was the actual title, but it was filled with ripping yarns about the tough but always professional FBI diligently nailing Bad Guys (and Gals, e.g. Ma Barker*) ranging from vicious, homicidal criminals to saboteurs and "subversives".
* Speaking of the FBI's penchant for extra-legal disposition of reputed criminals, by the time I got into Kurt Vonnegut's books, I was enlightened but not offended when he wrote (in "Jailbird") "[John] Dillinger was summarily executed by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was shot down in a public place, although he was not trying to escape or resist arrest. So there is nothing recent in my lack of respect for the FBI".
One appealing aspect of their "professionalism" was that they used "science" and technology to fight crime; they were presented as intelligent and "smart" rather than as thuggish, brutal bullies. This theme was the precursor to the "CSI" TV series genre that apparently still attracts Useful Idiots.
I, like most of the Amerikan public, had no idea that the FBI's existence and reputation had been carefully groomed and marketed to create the image that the organization and its intrepid agents were white-hatted heroes like The Lone Ranger. Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. wasn't as glamorous as the Masked Man, but I was a fan of his "FBI" TV series and certainly rooted for him and his colleagues.
Without delving into a media review, off the top of my head I also remember rooting for Gene Hackman's character in "Mississippi Burning", where he played another "Popeye Doyle" type: a tough and righteous lawman who gutsily bent the rules to Do the Right Thing and ultimately vanquish the villains and evildoers.
Few realized that "J. Edgar Hoover" was as much of a fictitious media-creation as the glamorous and gritty FBI agents in pop-culture entertainment. 🤨
It's all so depressing Cindy. I identify as "dissident right now," but all that really means is I am anti-war, pro free speech, pro wilderness preservation, anti 3 letter agencies, and against living in ze pods and eating ze bugs which is what is now called "environmentalism." Like you I am old enough to remember when these were left wing values.
The "left" swung to fascism---beginning with Obama, then they got TDS, then they turned State lovers during Covid, and now their drooling war criminal. Very little left, left.

I notice that along with the usual cop shows on TV, there are now several shows glorifying the FBI. There's a new generation to indoctrinate!
