As usual, thoughtful and spot on. I’ve been actively posting about the Israel-Hamas situation on Threads. My most followed post is currently standing at an engagement of 60 replies and over 1600 likes. My overall follower count has gone up by thousands in the last few days.

That's fascinating — Threads really feels like it's having a moment.

The only problem with Threads is that it's not available in Europe... cutting off a big chunk of the world's population from it. Whereas we are on Bluesky and Mastodon. So if you go only to Threads, I'd not be able to follow you there...

The dynamics and momentum on Threads in the last 48 hours are insane... Bluesky's algorithm completely failed imho, Mastodon has at least hashtags about the war in Israel and Gaza but man, both platforms had nothing on Threads.

Yes, I do believe Threads could be the next go to platform when Twitter gets burned to the ground. Nah, forget about this... it already is, at least when you live outside of the EU

Its disappointing that Threads is seeing so many new users. Musk has been breaking speed records for creating awfulness online but Facebook has been a consistent, proven bad actor for years and years. Having people move from Twitter to Threads feels like moving higher up the Titanic.

I get it though. By using their Instagram account, they've done a lot to make it easy to jump start the experience. People, including me, want the real time news part of Twitter back in some way. If the path of least resistance leads to what you want, well...

But still, Facebook is guilty of just so much awfulness. Stinks that they're able to gain in this situation.
