Ryan - you might be interested in Trace Labs, they do OSINT competitions for helping find missing persons all over the world. They forward evidence found to the appropriate law enforcement agencies, and it's a great way for people to dip their toes into OSINTing or refine and hone their skills. All information found must be PAI and appropriately sourced. It's lots of fun to be a judge too!
This is, on its face, a good idea. But I can see where it would need strong oversight so the tail doesn't wag the dog on this project. Sort of a... if all you have are hammers... kind of thing.
I like this plan. Yes, some stuff could go wrong. There's also a need and an opportunity for the police to improve their efficacy in solving major crimes and prosecuting the bad guys.
