Indonesia comes under pressure from the strengthening dollar
Indonesia's central bank raised its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 6.25% on Wednesday as it tries to shore up the weak rupiah. "This interest rate increase is [meant] to strengthen the stability of the rupiah exchange rate from the impact of worsening global risks," Bank Indonesia Gov. Perry Warjiyo told reporters at a news conference on Wednesday. He added that the rate hike is "a pre-emptive and forward-looking step to ensure inflation remains within the target." The bank's inflation target range is 1.5% to 3.5% for this year and 2025.
