While watching an episode of 25 Words or Less, the celebrity giving the clues chose words that were not successful. Trying to get the contestants to say the word “entrance”, he offered, “threshold.” My choice would have been “not exit.” He did this several times throughout the rounds and his team was beaten. Badly. Yet Meredith Vieira praised him with, “You did a great job!”
Great piece! Recently, I've been contemplating the capitalistic impulse to turn art into commerce. A successful businesswoman I know did just that--turned her art into business--and is miserable. All she worries about day in and day out is moving enough of the product to keep her employees full-time. Numbers, numbers, numbers are on her mind from the time she wakes up to the time she goes to bed...if she goes to bed. Yet she has more money than ever before in her life. Hearing her question the worth of such a trade-off was sobering.
Also...my grammar isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I could hear my journalism professor comically bellowing, "That game show should be called '25 Words or FEWER.' Jesus Christ, and THESE people are the professionals!!!" 😆
