Iran doesn’t need a bomb to destroy the west. We are doing it to ourselves from within. Look at our education system, intelligence operations, our uni party, our fourth turning presidential candidates. The removal of our civil liberties. If you don’t think we are on the verge of a World War III then we have ignored Sarjevo in 1917 and Germany in 1939.

Iran’s massive drone and missile attack on Israel was far from a failure. Iran showed Israel and the world it could directly attack Israel. It was saying, we no longer fear you even if you have a large nuclear arsenal. And we have the weapons to back up our threats. Also the Western coalition of allies used to repel the attack spent from between $1.3 billion, the first conservative estimate, up to $2 billion or even $3 billion, as Haaretz recently reported. That’s not chump change, folks. If Iran wanted, it could prosecute a series of massive barrage of drones and missiles on the heartland of Israel now, taking out Jaffe and Tel Aviv. And Israel now knows it, you can be assured. Why do you think it got more money from the U.S. with the passage of the war bill in Congress? So I’m just not buying this happy talk: “The Israeli decision not to take out Natanz could lead to a whole new Middle East and Iran will now be free to join the world.” More importantly, what the IDF does in its upcoming invasion of Rafah could quickly reverse that sanguine prediction. And I found it bizarre as a Vietnam vet, our representatives were waving Ukraine flags after the passage of the bill. Oddly, it reminded me of when the antiwar protesters at the Democratic convention in Chicago in 1968 waved the flag of communist North Vietnam in Lincoln Park. These representative who vote for the bill are lackeys of the miiitary/industrial complex. And now Bibi made this inflammatory video in which he accuses college students protesting, many who are Jewish, on campus against Israel’s war on Gaza and called them anti-Semitic and promoting genocide against Jews? Talk about chutpaz. I haven’t seen that kind of chutpaz since the Menendez brothers pleaded for mercy in the sentencing phase of their trial because murdering their parents made them orphans. Bibi acted like he’s our president. WTF? He’s as delusional as Zelensky who still refuses to admit he’s lost the war to Russia. Where’s Sleepy Joe? The way things are going we won’t have to worry about who wins the upcoming presidential election. We might be in World War Three before the election. They’re all clearly sociopaths and will bring us down with them when they fall. Which is exactly what I saw during the Vietnam War.

Seymour, this is coming across as a limited hangout

"when an Iranian drone and missile assault on Israel failed" No Seymour. The purpose of the attack was to show the Israel is that Iran can run circles around them. The vaunted Iron Dome was so busy poppin' those $1000.00 drones that five Iranian missiles slipped right through it and hit their targets.

The Iranian retaliation didn't fail. Look up both Scott Ritter's and Chas Freeman's analysis. Iran demonstrated it can hit anything under what used to be called Israel's Iron Dome - but should henceforth be referred to as its Tinfoil Dome. The defense was very costly; far more costly than the cheap drones and mostly old missiles Iran sent - with all the advance warning you could imagine. And still they struck an airfield and intelligence centre deep within the most heavily defended airspace on the planet, even with the help of US, UK and Jordan. OK, they didn't do much damage, let alone kill anyone. Still the mainstream media follows in the tradition of Le Bon, Creel, Bernays and Goebels by saying it was a failure and everything is fine - and that Iran's response to Israel's illegal act was "disproportionate". If Iran is forced into making a further retaliation it will be catastrophic for Israel's military infrastructure. Israel knows that now.

You just wrote the opinion of an American official, Seymour. Since when have you been unquestioning about American relations? I guess age makes a coward of us all.

The Iranians gave warning days in advance. Sent slow drones to distract Israel’s air defenses. That btw cost US taxpayers on billion. Then Iran fired hypersonic missiles at some sensitive areas. Iran made a point and Israel made their point. Any real war will be painful to both parties.

I seldom disagree with you but your bias is showing. Iran is given a chance to join civilization? What exactly is Going on in Gaza and the West Bank if it isn’t a repeat of WW 2 Germany? From your statements you might think it’s Iran that needs to join civilization.

So, one commenter thinks/heard Russia was notified of this? How and by whom? There isn’t even a hotline to the Kremlin from Washington anymore. Hypothetical “notification”: Uh yeah, this is Joe “Mumbles” Biden and my robotic side kick Anthony Blinken. Who are we speaking with?

This is Sergei Lavrov, long time no hear Mr. President. You are aware this is an unsecured landline, right?

Of course I am, didn’t you hear it was a collect call?

We did Mr. President, but are surprised as to why you chose this means to communicate sensitive information.

Well Sergei, Katherine Zeta Jones told me ATT just raised my international calling rate, so I’m at the only pay phone left in DC.

I see Mr. President, unusual, but I’m okay with it- your spies know when I break wind, so no secrets from anyone. How can I help you?

Sergei, tell Vlad that we are going to shoot down Iran’s drones and hopefully at least some of their missiles heading to Israel.

So, why is that of concern to me, Mr. President? These are not our projectiles, and defense matters are not my function, but Sergei Shoigu’s- you sure you dialed the right Sergei?

Projectile function? I didn’t call you about Viagra you idiot, but missiles!

Please Mr President, calling me a durok is undignified, even for you, so please elaborate on your statement or request in a civil manner. What do you want the Russian Federation to do?

Nothing, just say you approve of our response to this unprovoked massive attack on a small, defenseless nation.

Are you referring to Gaza?

Yes, er no- I mean Israel!

You sure Mr President? I mean last week you said your uncle was eaten by cannibals in New Guinea, so I’m sure you understand my skepticism.

Dammit Lavrov, why can’t you be more like Zelensky, he’s a real yes man, just say yes!

Okay, Da.

Ahhhh!!! Anthony, quick get my uppers and Kamala to take over. She can deal with Lavrov. It’s past my nap time but I want to stay awake for the ice cream truck- double scoop cherry vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles, please!

Increasingly, I get the sense these "intelligence officials" are playing with the narrative that you end up putting out. There's something not quite right, in your writing these days.

Russia helped shoot down Iranian drones? Where did that come from????

Bombing the Natanz facility would have put a lot of radioactive dust into the surround and beyond. With every passing day Isreal is recruiting for the Hamas and Palestinian cause. With every passing day people of conscience around the world are getting disgusted with the state of Isreal.

I’m sorry, this is such a wrong-headed conclusion that now I really question EVERYTHING he has ever written. Iran IS building a nuclear bomb. Please do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Israel did not attack the nuclear facilities because, it might have something else on its plate. um..you may have heard of it…the war Against Hamas. FFS.

If it wasn’t because of Israel covert actions against Iran during the last 15 years, Iran would have the bomb ready to go by now.

Iran has no bomb now. It may in the future. Look at what happened to other countries when they gave up their bombs: Libya. Ukraine. And look what happened to North Korea when it showed that it did have a bomb: the Americans stopped talking about inflicting regime change on it. If you were Iran, what would you do?

Possibly the worst thing Trump did as president – and that's a high bar – was to scuttle the nuclear deal with Iran.

Seymour Hersh continues to show us that not only does he appear time and time again to have the the best contacts in the U.S. ,and maybe Israeli, intelligence community, but that they trust him also.

Hmmm... Independent journalist Kim Iverson on her podcast interviewed an independent Iranian female journalist last weekend and the narrative seemed to be that both responses, by Iran and then Israel, were to show their own populations their strength and restraint. Outside looking in, how does the west truly see this game of calling ones' bluffs?
