I'm convinced there's a kind of mental illness particular to the extremely wealthy, or at least a wildly skewed worldview. The cruelty and selfishness is astonishing.

They are sick in the head but not with a diagnosable illness. Calling their affliction mental illness does injustice to those who suffer.

What these people are afflicted with is something they choose to wallow in: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth with a huge dose of gluttony.

Agreed that they are sick in the head. I think it is diagnosable. When Treacherous-treasonous-traitorous-tantruming-Trump first became president there was a discussion that his behavior of narcissistic megalomania is quite common in the business world. A certain type of upbringing and experiences seems to breed this mental illness to make it common enough that most people just see it as character flaws and not the sickness that it really is. These people are self destructive to fund TTTTT because they are willing to put Trump's finger on the red button in order to increase their obscene wealth, which they should never have been allowed to get at our expense in the first place. Only Biden even dares to say he will not support the super wealthy in growing their wealth. No one else dares to. The USA is in itself a sick entity because of Ronald Reagans trickle down being allowed to take over, and no one turning it around until Joe Biden, who is treated as public enemy number one because he stands up to the Super rich. No one does that. The judges are catering to Trump, and the press too, because he stands for the wealthy, as he is the wealthy. Yay Biden!

Fantastically informative, PopInfo!

Your bio's and activities of the rich and selfish, those who influence and benefit scumbag politicians and wannabe scumbag politicians, is a public service, for which you should be awarded.

Pass this info on, readers. Knowledge is power.

This information is so valuable. I pledge never ever to buy dominos sugar. And the tough one is the owner of our beloved baseball team, Chicago Cubs. This is a deep blue city and we influence the vote for the entire state. It disgusts me that they profit off of so many people who despise them and their politics.

The difficult part is that almost every brand we can think of is owned by right wingers. Mergers and buy outs are the death of democracy and supportive of plutocracies where we are today.

We keep fighting! And remember, while we hear daily about idiot rescumliCons, Biden has been accomplishing wins for the American public. They are smothered by coverage of the rapist & deadly seditionist.

That’s been an issue for me as well. I can’t simply stop supporting every business, actor, athlete, nonprofit because they support Trump. I try to pick and choose, partially selfishly-based. If I have a choice of different organizations and I know one is supporting Trump, I’ll purchase from the other one. But with monopolies, and so many big business owners supporting Republicans, it’s hard.

Same here. I do what I can. We’re so screwed that the road to a turn-around is looking long. I’m tired of Dems worrying about following the law because once back in power the RepubliCons might try more tricks! The point is for Democrats to reverse everything they can with the power they are handed. With any level of majority, Dems need to ride roughshod over everything the fascist rescumliCons have done. Turn the tables! Impeach criminal SVOTUS members! Then put in laws that will take THEM decades to undo! And never forget the damage rescumliCons have done!

I’m a longtime Cubs fan and I, as well, despise the Ricketts family (except Laura). I take solace in the fact that almost every MLB owner is a terrible human being. At least we’re (almost all) in this together!

Thank you for familiarizing us with this cast of characters who live for their wealth and plans to increase it at the expense of those who suffer, often working as hard as they can in the attempt to merely survive.

I'm paying attention to the warnings about deregulation: "Lance Gilman, who played a key role supporting the lobbying effort, previously said that Trump’s deregulation plan was 'the untold story of the administration.' He added that it was 'a bigger victory than Trump placing a new justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.' " No regulation, no protection for those without great wealth--this is exactly what's on trial in NY City right now in the personification of Donald Trump,

Greedy bastards, all of them. And don't even get me started on two bit mobster Steve Wynn or Woody Johnson and his gold-digger wife, who has probably never seen a woody johnson from her old fart husband.

Tax cuts and sugar subsidies matter more to these assholes than a healthy democracy. And they think that if Trump seizes power he won't be demanding a cut of each and every one of their fortunes.

Hmm, well, I take solace in that I only see one California link, albeit a rent gouger which these days is top of mind for many people. Bummer as a whole though. This is why we shouldn't let people get too rich, they just use their resources to steal from ordinary people and the feds.

The Koch fortune is still rolling out cash, I assume? When you look at the 1% and what they are doing to control elections it blows the mind. I don't like them.

I don't buy sugar thankfully or gamble. And once again I just had a shiver over our future. Thank you for this article, I know more about the enemies of Democracy.

Nice reporting PI!

The uber wealthy underscore the Republican mantra transmogrification from “I’ve made mine; feel free to make your own” to “I’ve made mine and I’m coming for yours” to “I’ve made mine, I’m coming for yours, and if you’re not suffering, I’m not happy.” On a related note, apparently poor Republicans will vote against self-interests as long as they perceive others as suffering.

A large number of current billionaires actually inherited their wealth. However, they tell themselves that they are somehow more skilled, more intelligent, more hardworking and thus, they somehow deserved their wealth. And of those who actually did make their own wealth, there’s a good number who feel it is their responsibility to tell everyone else how to live. Looking at you, Elon. Luckily, there are others who really do give back and generally are grateful for the opportunity offered by living in the US.

Alexander Hamilton would be all, “I told you so”! Corporations and the uber-wealthy are natural enemies of democracy.

And I’ll also add re: Joe Ricketts: His son was INSTALLED into the senate in a Koch-Ricketts maneuver that included sending Ben Sasse to the U of Florida (where he creates havoc with gender and black studies) and they literally paid to put Jim Pillen, Pig Farmer Extraordinaire, in the governor’s office. Pillen, who is buying up land in western Nebraska, contaminating ground water with nitrates (that leach out Uranium into drinking water), and carrying on a campaign to privatize public schools. These are the essence of Fascist billionaires carrying out the Libertarian agenda described in Nancy MacLean’s book, “Democracy in Chains.”

The most corrupt of the corrupt. Absolutely disgusting that they would rather hurt the people whose backs they used to get where they are. Yeah I support taxing these rich so they can’t donate hundreds of thousands or millions.

How about a 25% tax on contributions to politicians. All of 'em. Or 50% for that matter. What a scam.
