School Resource Officer Kyle Keller is Promoted!
A new McKay Group sponsorship, volleyball, and more...
Knoxville School Resource Officer Kyle Keller is accepting a promotion to Sergeant, and his replacement will be named soon. He has served in that position for nearly nine years, and he looks back at those years fondly in our interview. He has some advice for parents, for students, and for all of us. He also shares some of his most meaningful memories. Here is our interview:
Above is a volleyball class Mr. Jason Gramlich taught recently.
I asked him in general how he approached teaching this class:
I’ve been doing this a long time; coaching a long time. I try to do it in different ways. I found that in the classroom setting, they typically like to be with partners or in small groups. It's a little less intimidating, and a little bit more reassuring, in their skill development when they have so many to do it with who are experiencing the same either struggles or successes. So, I always like to do it this way, break it down in partners and build us back up to, you know, like in a team game like volleyball, we end up playing in teams. So, I always like to break it down fundamentally and then work our way up.

I noticed the new McKay Group signs by the Middle School Weight Room and Gym. I asked Todd Chambers, Principal and Investment Professional with the McKay Group about why they became sponsors:
At McKay Group we feel very strongly about supporting our local schools. Through this sponsorship, the school is able to have funds needed to make sure that there are athletic trainers at practices and games as well as the ability to help fund items outside of their normal budget.
I asked Activities Director Ryan Paulsen what his thoughts were on the gift:
We are very fortunate to have so many amazing community partners who are so supportive of Knoxville Activities. We want students to have an awesome experience participating in our extracurricular activities, and our coaches/sponsors and Activities Department work really hard to do that. The help and support of local businesses give us even more resources for our kids and programs. We are very excited to have the McKay Group on board as our new sponsor of the Middle School Gym and Middle School/High School Weight Room. They are fantastic supporters of Knoxville Schools.
Superintendent Cassi Pearson hopes there will be a great turnout for the School Board Candidate Forum:
I encourage you to learn more about the six candidates and vote if you are eligible. There are three open seats on the ballot (out of five--Monica Sullivan and Larry Scott are in the middle of their term.) Three incumbents are running (Cheri Gerdes, Dave Smith, and Larissa Van Donselaar) along with three other candidates (Jyl DeJong, Brian Slykhuis, and Susan Swartzendruber.)
Please listen, learn, and vote!
