Mr. Michael Splavec tells me that some teachers are incorporating the NCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball tournaments into lesson plans. Students and staff are filling out brackets, and at Northstar students who want to play pick a random sticky note off of this wall, and the team on the back becomes their team through the tournament. He tells me that students follow the team, learn about them, and learn geography and many more applications. Here is our interview.
Every day High Schoolers in general education and special education meet for one period and engage in games and athletic activities that build friendships that go beyond the school grounds. Associate Kelsey Greenman tells me more about it, and shares that working with special education students brings “joy” to her heart:

Brielle and Wyatt are in first grade. They love West Elementary and art in Angela Caughey’s classroom. They tell me what they like about school and art.
Friday was cold and windy, and track coach Eric Kellar Eric held practice indoors. The team is looking for its third straight conference title. Coach Kellar is optimistic and is pleased that 39 athletes are on the team.
