By Walt Hickey R The Hong Kong license plate that just reads “R” sold at auction for HK$25.5 million ($3.25 million) after 60 rounds of bidding at auction, which started at the lowly price of HK$5,000. It was one of 49 plates up for grabs at an annual Transport Department auction held during Lunar New Year. It’s the second-highest price paid for a plate, behind just the “W” plate that sold for HK$26 million in March of 2021. Most of the plates sold carried the digit “8” which is considered to be lucky. The sale of personalized vehicle registrations has brought in HK$600 million to the government since 2006.
I would not buy a sports or muscle car without a manual transmission. Driving a car with extra horsepower that has an automatic transmission totally negates the fun of driving the darn things!
Well I drove a manual stick most of my life, and only in the last four years moved to automatic. But I can't see how anyone would prefer manual! One reason, in stop and start traffic congestion the shifting in and out of neutral and first gear gets real old, real fast. Second, if you live in a really hilly burg like I do, and the roads are wet too boot, who needs to deal with clutch work when you are stopped on an uphills stretch? Nope. I don't miss them! And I owned manual sports cars!
Can’t drive anymore, unfortunately. But I think zipping around where I live would have been fun.
If only some lucky event could help Just Egg reach taste parity with Actual Eggs then they'd be set.
