Re manual transmissions:. I said it once Walter, and it's worth repeating. Manual transmissions are a pain! Anyone who uses one in stop-and-go rush-hour highway congestion will agree that working the clutch as you go back and forth from neutral to first gear countless times is a royal pain. If you live in a hilly town and get stopped at a light facing uphill and worse, it's wet pavement then you'll agree manuals are a bust. I speak as one who knows; I drove sticks for decades, including sports cars. Shifting through the gears on winding mtn roads is fun I admit, but face it: that's only about 5% of anyone's driving.
I started driving manual transmission cars. I graduated to a stick shift with my 4th car, and got a muscle car for my 5th (1970 GTO). I drove that car through three Michigan winters on the western side of the state, where lake effect snow was a way of life. It was *heavenly!!* It was also a terrific workout, for one leg, at least! ;) I can easily understand why manual transmission cars are popular among younger buyers!!
