Are knit hoodies the next wave?
A look at new collections from Rice Nine Ten, Dime, Stussy, Awake, a pair of shoes I have my eyes on, and more!
Another week of fashion discussion is upon us. We’ve been extremely blessed with content this week because there is a lot we need to talk about. With spring around the corner, our favorite brands have finally started dropping their collections and things are looking fresh, exciting and most importantly fun for the upcoming season.
In today’s newsletter, we’ll be taking a first look at the various knits from Rice Nine Ten’s FW24 season that you need to know about, Dime’s Spring 24 collection and what you can expect from their first drop coming this weekend, a look at Awake NY SS24 season, my thoughts on the Stussy Spring 24 collection, a pair of Gazelle’s I have my eyes on, and doing a quick dive back into the archives with the Nike SB Janoski.
RICE NINE TEN - FW24
By now you should be somewhat aware of RNT — I mean, I’ve been talking about them for a minute now, but let me bring you up to speed if you’re a new subscriber to the newsletter. Based out of Japan, Rice Nine Ten has been pumping out collections since 2018, featuring jackets, pants, and everything in between. More recently though, the brand has shifted its focus to creating knits in styles that feel new and refreshing, and that makes things pretty exciting.
Here is a first look at the upcoming FW24 collection to drop later this year:
It’s been a lot of fun watching this brand dive into the knit game because season after season they are just levelling up their design and execution in this department. For those interested can check out the products in person at Shop & Son in New York — they are one of the first shops to carry them in America which is sick. SSENSE is also another retailer that will be carrying them very soon.
Anyway, sport-styled knits have been the bread and butter of their seasons recently, and I’m kind of excited to see how they will use their design process to apply their knit techniques to different pieces. One particular item that has grabbed my attention is their hoodie. They’ve done some for past seasons, but the FW24 ones might be their best work yet.
While I like the sporty approach to their stuff, this season is simply hitting way harder for me — the simplicity in their design is going to be much more enjoyable to wear for a longer time. I’m honestly feeling these, it’s a style that you don’t really get to see every day. I mean, sure we have so many knits to choose from already but none of them are done in the style of a hoodie, so it’s definitely something I’m hyped on. If it’s done right, I think a lot of people will start messing with this style more, we just need a few brands to give us their versions of them — if it’s within financial reach, the designs are good, then I wouldn’t be surprised if these would become the next wave in the knit game.
At the moment I don’t know the exact date Rice Nine Ten is releasing theirs, but stay tuned and I’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date when I have more info.
DIME - SPRING 24
The first Dime drop of the year is here and things are looking good — The first drop is happening on February 24th on their website so get ready. You can expect a pretty big collection that features jerseys, tees, pants, a great selection of accessories and more. Teasers have been going out on their Instagram which you can check out here, but I gathered a couple of my favorite shots which you can see below:
Obviously the jerseys are extremely hot — enjoying the fact that they went with the long sleeve option for this release. But for me, the real eye-catchers have to be the various collared pieces that will be dropping this season. Simple execution with a touch of familiar Dime designs keeps these pieces fun and easy to wear.
Below are a few of my favorite pieces dropping this coming weekend, but I recommend staying alert when the drop goes live because there is a lot of heat worth checking out — sidenote, the Portal hoodie that’s shown on the top left in the image below is an absolute need. This one is strictly for The Orange Box enthusiasts. A lot of you have been asking for belt recommendations, and there are a few good options dropping that you won’t want to miss.
Dime Spring 24 Drop 1 will be going out on February 24th, at 1 PM EST on the dimemtl.com website.
AWAKE NY - SPRING 24
Wallets going to be hurting this weekend because we have another collection dropping this Saturday, February 24th. This one might fly under the radar for some though, but to me this is a low-key slapper of a collection from Awake — a bunch of solid items that will complement any wardrobe on an individual level.
I feel like they are levelling up this season and finding their unique ground. Styling is really on point, and there are a lot of really hot individual pieces that I’m feeling. It’s one of those collections that might go over a lot of people’s heads, but in reality they are hitting the current pinpoints of what’s currently hot on the streets — It’s not easy to explain this though, it’s just one of those things that you either get it or you don’t.
You can browse more of the looks on their Instagram directly here, and get ready for their drop on February 24th, at 12 PM EST.
STUSSY - SPRING 24
Stussy came in and did what they had to do — deliver a solid range of items that will have us ready for spring in no time. The first drop is already live on the website, and you shouldn’t be sleeping to cop because items are going fast. You can check out the full lookbook here with some of my favorite looks down below:
The lack of 8-balls in this collection is beyond welcomed. Ok, jokes aside there is just a lot of great stuff, the only problem is how much financial damage am I willing to take on. Quarter zips have been on the menu for some of you, so if you’re looking for some new styles I recommend giving the store a browse — a couple of good quarter zips are currently sitting in their store. Folks who have also been hitting me up about belt recommendations are in luck. Stussy always drops 1 or 2 different belt styles to pick from, and this season’s choices are looking pretty hot.
Below are a few of my favorite pieces that are currently available on the Stussy website here:
A SHOE YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT
Enough about the collections, it’s time to switch it up for a second. Now, originally when Gucci and Adidas came together for the Gazelle collection I was pretty hyped — it introduced new materials and colorways not usually seen on this particular Adidas model. To tell you the truth though, that retail price was not looking so hot though, so a part of me wished that Adidas would design something similar for an affordable price point and I think they just did.
Originally teased on Instagram, Size? Official is cooking up their own version of the Gazelle Indoor. Now you might think, oh they kind of look similar to the Gucci’s, and maybe that’s somewhat true, but honestly I don’t think it’s particularly a bad thing. I wanted something exactly like this, something that didn’t cost and arm and a leg, and have an actual chance at securing for a reasonable price — if anything I’m stoked on this.
At the moment this is just a teaser and an official date is yet to come, but stay tuned and I’ll be sure to update you once I have more information.
DIVING BACK INTO THE ARCHIVES
The Nike SB Janoski has a special place in my heart, it’s one of the best skate shoes that the SB team has ever released, it was popular during a time that now feels nostalgic within fashion, everyone at the time seemed to have a pair, and it was all happening when I was growing up. Anyway, just recently Stefan Janoski got his own episode of Epicly Later’d that I think everyone needs to watch if they were ever a fan of the shoe.
He talks about his rise in skateboarding, how he ended up working together with Nike to create the SB Janoski, and some really interesting tidbits about the shoe that you might not have known before — highly recommend watching this one!
