Amanda P's Metallica profile was wonderful and even encouraged me to listen to their new song which I've been hesitant to do after their last couple of albums - I was surprised to read that Trujillo's teenage son recorded the Master of Puppets guitar solo specifically for Stranger Things so it would sound more raw, rather than simply using the existing track we all know so well!

We're so sad to hear of the passing of Hamish Kilgour here at our house. My husband was close to him when he lived in NYC; they worked together before he realized Hamish was in The Clean. What a sweet soul, gone from this world.

Anything could happen

And it could be right now

And the choice is yours

So make it worthwhile

I really appreciated the bit about rushing to get....where? I’ve often had the thought “I wish I had a Time Machine, so I can get past this painful uncertain stage.” But we all know that it’s not possible and that all the pain or discomfort (tensions!) are what make the making of art meaningful and worthwhile.

Mick Herron’s Slough House series, on which Slow Horses is based, is very enjoyable. Jackson Lamb is even more deliciously awful in the books than in the one episode of Sliw Horses I’ve seen so far.

The Navajo tradition of leaving a little imperfection reminded me of Mary Blair including that tradition in her incredible Grand Canyon Concourse mural (with a five legged goat).

Also, thank you for reminding me of how good Sally Mann's Hold Still is. It might be time for a re-read for me.

I really love the bookends approach to reading. I do this sometimes but now I'm thinking I ought to do it more often. I always end the day with reading. I'm sure i could find 5 mins in the beginning to read as well. I did start to read one day a week on my day off reading but it was really hard to get out of bed! I could have just stayed there ... so I actually need tips on how to stop reading when you need to be doing other things :-D

Make sure those cherries are Luxardo Original Maraschino Cherries, not the chemical disasters of our childhoods.

Is it bad that I am most drawn to the "dumb luck" quadrant of your matrix? :)

Don't you think it's weird how "novels came back into your life"? I use to read novels and for some reason I feel guilty if I read a "novel" (now). I have to read a non-novel. It's like if I don't read non-fiction I am not doing myself or the world a service....however, I hardly ever read non-fiction at one time..it was all about fiction. I did learn a lot from reading fiction..Charles Dickens, the Brontes, Austen, Tam and all the old a new fiction writers (the list is too long). I tried picking up a fiction novel recently and I couldn't. But I am reading a fiction novel written for children and reading/listening to it book on tape type of thing and really enjoying it...plus reading non-fiction. Anyway, I have all of your square books and you autographed all of them pre-covid...you didn't say much, which is weird because your writing is great and I love it when I've caught you on LIVE IG...so much fun...you seem super talkative via IG and your writing or your live appearances. Have a great holiday season and to anyone who bothers to read this post. Best.

'Deliberate imperfection' is a wonderful phrase! I think some of its (somewhat perverse) cousins may be Chaotic Good and Goblin Mode.

The Sea, The Sea is my first Murdoch novel, and wow, and yes.
