Every one of my neighbors in Cheverly (MD) has been here 20+ years. They start out on the Hill, decide they want to have kids, and move here. And never leave! The roots here are very deep.

100% agree about the urbanism levels of the suburbs vs the city.

This made me nostalgic. I was almost a life-long Virginian. Grew up around Fredericksburg, spent the last 8 years north of the Occoquan. Moved away last fall. Lots of growth happened in my life in that time. I never knew it so thoroughly that I felt at home. Haven't stayed anywhere long enough to get that feel, yet. Great post. Thank you for the unanticipated trip down memory lane.

Thanks for writing this. I loved NoVa when I lived there and still miss it sometimes. Have you ever done a piece on Centreville? I remember living there at one point and being able to walk from my apartment/townhouse complex to an Hmart and like 10 Korean bbq places and thinking I had found the American dream.
