Quite brave to start outwith the arrival of the monster - if this were a movie intro i would be sitting with my popcorn anticipating thar this would turn out to be a dream sequence that would somehow shape the main story. Cue a sudden cutaway to s suburban mum doing suburban mum things or something like that. The tension builds nicely and the detail paints a really clear picture of the beastie.
To be fair, what I wrote didn't start with the monster - it took me a while to get to it (character development, etc.). But that was just first draft-itis! LOL.
Thanks! I have a faerie world where the faeries aren't Tinkerbell types. I am still evolving how my faeries look and act, and I am trying to build a world where they are very different from humans, but it's a challenge. Doing stuff like this helps immensely with worldbuilding, and I think I might try to build out a collection of shorter stories (I have a few already) set in the world.
Here are a few of my shorts with my faeries and witches. None are monsters though. That was a new idea I wanted to play with.
