Americans: "We demand an expanded playoff schedule!"

NCAA: "BY POPULAR DEMAND" (Swims in $$$)

I have two thoughts on this:

1. East Guam Barber College would get steamrolled by East American Samoa Barber College

2. The solution is a 16 team playoff where all conference champions get an automatic bid plus the remaining 7 bids (there will be nine conferences next year) will be at-large.

1. You’re just saying that because EGBC got swallowed by a volcano.

2. Yes, I like this. It would be like basketball, in that 1) Everyone has a path to the championship — if nobody beats you, you’re the champ, and 2) If you didn’t win your conference and are arguably not the 16th best team in the country then maybe shut up about being denied a shot at the title?

1. Yes, it's a shame that their entire student body was incinerated by a volcano, but that's ok. With the transfer portal they should be able to reload next year.

2. I don't see any advantage to 12 teams over 16. Each tournament would have the same number of rounds and last the same number of weeks. I don't get why they chose 12.

As a European blissfully ignorant of everything related to American Football (as we call it here): how does a 12-teams playoff work? 4 teams I understand, you get semi-finals and a final. It scales to 8, 16, 32 if you want to push it. But 12? Does each team have to play the 11 others or what?

Eight teams play in the first playoff round, but four teams get a "bye" (they get to skip the first round). So, the second round also has eight teams: The four teams that won the first-round games and the four teams that got to skip the first round (and rankings will determine which teams get to skip, and yes, that will be argued about).

It's a bit like cup soccer. PSG doesn't play the first round of the Coupe de France -- the first round is for Ville de Merde de Mouton and SC Gouffre. So, those teams play each other for a while, and PSG enters in Round 3 or whatever.

Basically the cfb poobahs are terrified to tell the SEC to pound sand-which is what should have happened this year-no Bama in the playoff, and FSU gets the spot.

That said, as an Ohio State fan I’m certainly glad scUM has to play Bama instead of FSU……

"The only other sport that uses a selection committee is college basketball"

Uh, Jeff, EVERY OTHER SPORT uses a selection committee!

And FSU was ranked around 10th at the end of the season by various computer-ranking systems:

Yes, good point, I changed that sentence to say “every MAJOR sport”, and anyone who wants to argue that college lacrosse is a major sport can come at me.

OK, by that definition, Murican Football is the ONLY major sport. Baseball, volleyball, soccer, hockey (and yes lacrosse, the only truly American sport), etc etc etc, all got them committees.

The college basketball slander notwithstanding, a-fucking-men. Similar case to Florida State: Nebraska in the mid 90s. The voters loved those corn fuckers.

The basketball slander is there mostly for joke purposes, but I also think that most people couldn’t care less about the basketball regular season and just like doing a bracket in March.

Yes, voters loved the Huskers! I think they liked Tom Osborne. And I think they gave it to FSU in ‘93 because of Bobby Bowden. It’s Oscars logic: “We like this person and it’s his turn!”

You're probably right about most people. I generally do follow the regular season, mostly because I find the NBA unwatchable and love the sport too much to not watch it at all.

It's true. I watch and follow a lot of sports, but college basketball is hard to get into until tournament time.

Just remember-Forrest Gump gave credit to those corn fuckers for beating Bama’s ass…..
