Hello - Welcome to the latest Spotify Newsletter! I hope everyone had a nice week!
We're not too far off from the midway point of 2023.
Does anyone spend a quick moment or two thinking about how their Spotify Wrapped is shaping up thus far? I know I do.
“Have I listened to this Steely Dan song enough times already to place it solidly in my top 5?”
“Do I want this Nathaniel Rateliff tune in my top 5, and if so, should I make sure to listen to it more often?”
“Am I really going to end another year with a Style Council tune as my top song?”
“I’m going on a deep deep dive into some crazy genres to spice up my end of year list.”
These are thoughts that cross my mind as I hop around Spotify.
That's how cool Spotify Wrapped is: I think about it constantly, shaping and shifting my top songs throughout the year.
That big reveal at the end of the year is so delightful.
My ChatGPT friend breaks it down:
Music fans love Spotify Wrapped because it gives them a personalized and comprehensive summary of their listening habits over the past year. With so much music available on streaming services like Spotify, it can be difficult to keep track of all the songs and artists that you've listened to, and Wrapped provides a convenient and entertaining way to do just that.
In other news ….. If you received my new AI Music Newsletter Thursday you’d know we are at defcon 1 and rising in the great AI Music battle of 2023.
Things are moving fast and furious between the robots, the artists, the platforms and, Lordy knows, the lawyers.
Spotify is part of the action as it has pulled a number of songs created through Boomy and ceased allowing new releases from the AI music platform.
This is constantly changing story and no doubt Team Spotify is blocking off more than a few strategy sessions at headquarters to try and stay a step ahead of this monumental shake-up now happening in the big business of creativity.
Have a nice day - and great weekend!!

I might not listen to Aerosmith with the same frequency as I did when I was growing up - as a proud member of the Aero Force One Fan Club - but they remain one of my very favorite bands — with a catalog of music I love.
The band has announced a farewell tour to close the curtain on a wild and amazing 50 year career. I was fortunate to see them twice back in the 80s, and perhaps I’ll swing by for one of the farewell shows. And with that, I had to drum up a few of my faves to celebrate a truly great rock n’ roll band.
Is there anyone who doesn’t like Gordon Lightfoot? The man just made darn good music - simple as that. The honey-voiced Canadian singer-songwriter who had giant hits with “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” died Monday at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. He was 84.
Damn he was good. Rest In Peace.
