⭐️ Joe Rogan Podcast Boosts Gary Clark Jr. Streams on Spotify
Joe Rogan‘s massively popular podcast not only drives millions of listens of his show on Spotify — it also can boost music streams of guests featured on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” too.
One of Spotify’s theses behind its investment in podcasts is that they spur higher engagement for the music side of the house: Users who listen to podcasts on average listen to more music, according to the company. Now Spotify has new stats it says demonstrate that flywheel effect as it relates to Rogan’s show, which has more than 14 million followers on the platform.
⭐️ After spat with TikTok, UMG expands Spotify partnership to include music videos and more
In the wake of Universal Music Group’s (UMG) public spat with TikTok, which saw the label pulling its full catalog from the video app earlier this year, the company is doubling down on its deal with Spotify.
UMG announced an expansion of its strategic relationship with the streaming music service that will focus on “music discovery and social interaction” as well as enhanced fan experiences. The addition of music videos is included among these new features in the U.S.
⭐️ Spotify tests video courses to teach everything from music production to Excel
Spotify has carved out a business for itself in music streaming, podcast entertainment and audiobooks. Now, in its ongoing efforts to get its 600 million+ users to spend more time and money on its platform, Spotify is spinning up a new line of content: e-learning.
Starting with a rollout in the U.K., Spotify is testing the waters for an online education offering of freemium video courses. Produced in partnership with third parties like the BBC and Skillshare, at least two lessons will be free, with the cost of a total course ranging from £20 to £80 on average. The prices will be the same, regardless of whether you are a basic or premium user, at least for now.
⭐️ Spotify's Miniplayer Desktop App Wants to Aid Productivity
The new player, which is set to "always on top," enables Premium users to change tracks, choose playlists, control volume and watch videos and podcasts.
Spotify says the player, which resembles the MiniPlayer for Apple Music, has been one of the service's most requested features, and describes it in a press release as a "perfect productivity companion."
