Certainly we gravitate to those activities that can be a source of both. And since the "mind is its own place," we can make valid arguments to ourselves that many activities serve both purposes. Intimacy between a couple provides pleasure and strengthens the relationship (for the record I've been married 37 years). Tennis provides both to me as does writing, the first exercising the body, the second the mind. Finally, we know that having close friendships are one of the most important predictors of long term health, so socializing with close friends is also a two for one activity.

Thanks for making me think about this in a way that is new to me and and helpful!
