#10: New job, and a couple of new articles šø
Headline news is completing my first week as Staff Android Engineer at Seatfrog! As clichĆ© as it sounds, after learning more about the companyās direction / position etc. (and meeting more of the team), Iām even more excited than I was before joining.
One of the perks of the role is a 4 day work week(!), with that 50% longer weekend hopefully providing a bit more time for completing household chores, actually relaxing, and maybe even writing more articles. Iām really interested to see how a shorter working week than Iāve experienced for the last decade affects me, expect an article soon!
New articles:
On my programming site I dived into how emoji usage can impact a teamās culture, and provided a few recommendations on utilising them. Iāve never used emojis in this newsletter, maybe I should start šš¤ā
Over on my personal site I reviewed a few Android games Iāve been enjoying recently, āSlitherlinkā is the only one that has stayed on my phone since then!
From elsewhere on the internet:
Iāve been listening to $stdout tons now Iām back in a software engineering role, and managed to get āin the zoneā at work for the first time in months earlier in the week. Itās a good experience, despite how the song might make it sound..! Iād also recommend āRemote Lifeā, āSales Said Yesā, and the absolutely unbeatable āTech Leadā.
Squeex did an āOnly Up!ā race with Ludwig and others, and the recap is definitely worth watching.
Similarly, Jerma did a āHouse Flipperā invitational, also with Ludwig and others, also worth watching! The recap is quite long, but helpfully split up into chapters for each creator.
In F1 news, Iām beyond thrilled Daniel Ricciardo is coming back to the grid, even if itās at the extent of De Vries. This video is perhaps a bit too accurate regarding the moveā¦
Oh, and some of my dumb RuneScape plugin ideas ended up in an Idyl video š
Other bits and pieces:
Whilst I wrote an article about Need for Speed Unbound back in April, it didnāt get many views until the āVolume 3ā update came out mid-June. In then exploded in popularity, with +1.2k% views compared to the month before:
In fact, 4 of the 5 top search terms people use to find my personal site are Need for Speed related:
Finally, maybe I should get new jobs more often, the announcement post on LinkedIn got far more engagement (entirely from people I actually know) than anything else Iāve posted!
Hope you have a great week š
