I’d heard a lot of friends pan Milan. But I think as long as you don’t go there expecting a supersized Siena or Venice or Verona, it’s lovely (though I’m still devastated that the Chiesa di San Maurizio was closed!). I loved the Duomo and the tree-lined tramlines and all the serene Luinis and the fashionable pedestrians.
The Certosa di Pavia is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen in my life—with a strict no-photos policy. But you can see Markus Brunetti’s exquisite facade here.
In Bergamo, where my friend and I went for a day, it rained—poured, actually. So we dashed from downpour to downpour until it was time to run for the train back to Milan.
