Alabama Supreme Court: Embryos Are 'Children' / Your Odds of Getting Pregnant on Ovulation Day / POV: The Pregnancy Prepper Life Chose Me đ
Plus, Heart attacks in women for American Heart Month
Hi friend!
In a new ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court, embryos are now considered âunborn childrenâ â posing an immense threat to IVF in the state and setting a dangerous precedent for more potential âpersonhoodâ laws to go into effect across the country.
The ASRM calls this a âmedically and scientifically unfounded decisionâ and Resolve declares the ruling âa terrifying development for the 1 in 6 people impacted by infertility who need in-vitro fertilization to build their families.â
At Rescripted, we've said it once, and weâll say it a million times: Reproductive choice matters (just ask Amanda Zurawski), and these issues are not black and white. Rather, there are many shades of gray that affect real people trying to grow their families. Visit Resolve.org to learn more about how to take action.
New: What Are Your Odds of Getting Pregnant on Ovulation Day?
If youâre actively trying to conceive (TTC), you know that timing intercourse around ovulation is key to getting pregnant. Your favorite app tells you that your fertile window is coming up and ovulation day is near.Â
But as ovulation day approaches, life gets in the way of your fertility plans. Maybe you worked late and arenât feeling sexy. Maybe your partner got invited on a bro trip and suffers from perpetual FOMO.
What happens if you canât do the deed on ovulation day?
The answer to this question lies in another question: Do you have a 100% chance of getting pregnant on ovulation day?Â
In this article, we share statistics to help you plan intercourse around your best chances of conceiving. And it turns out putting all that effort into one day of the month may not be your best strategy.
You Asked, We're Answering:
Q: What is the best sex position to get pregnant with twins?
A: Unfortunately, âthere is no scientific evidence supporting the idea that a particular sexual position can boost the chances of having twins,â says sexologist Rhiannon John. âTwins occur when a person releases two eggs (fraternal twins) or when a fertilized egg divides into two embryos (identical twins).â
However, if you and your partner are interested in changing things up in bed, here are some positions that might allow for deeper penetration (and more fun!).
Q: In honor of American Heart Month, what are some heart attack symptoms in women?
According to the CDC, women may experience chest pain or discomfort, upper back or neck pain, indigestion, heartburn, nausea or vomiting, extreme fatigue, dizziness, and shortness of breath, as well as fluttering feelings in the chest (palpitations), shortness of breath, sudden fatigue, or swelling of the feet, ankles, legs, or abdomen when having a heart attack.
âIâm not sure thereâs actually science behind this but I believe women often have a higher pain threshold than men,â says Sabah Siddiqui, M.D. FACC, an interventional cardiologist. âAnd so sometimes women arenât sure what they are feeling or canât quite describe it and just say they feel unwell, and that has the possibility of being brushed off."
Dr. Siddiqui recommends anyone above the age of 20 get a yearly basic workup with blood pressure and blood tests (including cholesterol levels), keeping in mind your family history. Learn more here.

What it sounds like in my brain trying to find a fertility clinic
Lastly, consider this your friendly (regular) reminder that debilitating period pain is not normal. In this week's episode of From First Period To Last Period, we sat down with Dr. Melissa Montes of the Kofinas Fertility Group to discuss how endometriosis is typically discovered, why it often takes so long to diagnose, and how to know if laparoscopic surgery is the right treatment option for you.
