Wild Mama Weekly Snippet #9
Teenage romance novels, cringey sitcoms, hiking, one on one time with children and future substack plans.
G’day mateys. We’re weekly snippeting on a Monday again!
The weekend was lovely and full! We had friends from Melbourne come and camp out with us, we went on a hike, chatted by the fire, wrangled the wild ones and had some time to catch up. We all had a great time but it was also a little hectic and today my family have all been leaning into some much needed slow and rest time, again.
What I’ve been reading this week:
This week I started reading Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh on a whim. Had seen it around a bit. Didn’t really know what I was getting myself into but I’m now deep in teenage Irish rugby world and I’m not hating it! Have moved into the 2nd book in the series. I was expecting a light little romance but it’s definitely darker and deeper than I expected and I’m enjoying it far more than I expected too!
What I’ve been listening to:
What have I been listening to? These posts are honestly such good reflections that would otherwise completely pass me by, mostly because my brain moves so fast 99% of the time. But listening wise, I’m working through the audiobook The Year I Met My Brain by Matilda Boseley. I have a lot of thoughts and feelings coming up around this one.
Otherwise I’m listening to my old faithfuls;
Music - Florence and the Machine
Podcast - Currently Reading
What I’ve been watching:
My husband and I finished up watching the series How I Met Your Father, it was cringey and I’m also sad there are no more episodes coming out.
I watched the movie Wild. I’m a sucker for adventure stories. I specifically love hiking stories but couldn’t imagine myself ever actually going trail thru hiking like that (especially not on my own). So I guess i’ll continue living vicariously through others and going on my little day hikes with my family.
What I’m loving:
Op shopping with my biggest babe. I used to be an avid op shopper pre covid lockdowns but got way out of the habit and have had a lot of life stuff these past few years. But we’re getting back at it. Trying to go for a weekly thrift. 1. Finding bargains - of course! 2. One on one time with my daughter. Not to mention the money management and learning experiences this allows my big girl or how great op shops are for learning resources!
Going for my (mostly) daily hour long walks. I chuck on a podcast or an audiobook and just walk. I had previously been counting my steps (and still am but holding it more loosely) but aiming for an hour walk each day is currently feeling more aligned. An hour is usually 6000-8000 steps depending on how quickly I walk so there’s still a good chance I’ll get to 10,000 steps and even if I don’t an hour walk feels good and is a decent amount of movement.
What I’m thinking about this week:
I’m thinking about what kills creativity and how formal schooling can discourage the very skills and habits they are hoping to instil. I’ve also been thinking about how cyclical living intersects with homeschooling / unschooling.
Mostly I’m saving deeper dives into these and other thoughts for some longer form posts that will drop for my subscribers (hopefully at least a couple anyway) before the month is out.

I love the pictures from your weekend adventure, looks like lots of fun! Also, I saw your book recommendation of Binding 13, downloaded the sample on my Kindle and inhaled the book - really enjoyed it. Am also now onto the second book of the series!
