They say April showers but the rain is continuing into May here in a big way. The spring birds have begun to show up in earnest, though the weather has made my time with them a bit hit or miss! The orioles are singing in the morning, along with vireos and warblers. The chorus has grown and it is very much music to my ears.
Here are some favorites for today:
Sunrise, April 30, 2024
First vireo I saw this year, a white-eyed vireo singing his heart out.
Cute little swamp sparrow gracing me with his presence.
Cardinals are still singing! I love that they sing nearly year-round.
Still plenty of blue-winged teal passing through.
Numerous sparrows passing through, like this savannah sparrow.
Pied-billed grebe reminding me to shake it off when things get stressful.
Yellow-rumped warbler with a look…
…and a hop.
I haven’t seen too many shorebirds - but then, they have plenty of mudflats in the open fields that have been filled with rain. The killdeer and the spotted sandpipers are keeping me company.
The cliff swallows have arrived and are busy building their nests under the bridge.
The miniature fighter planes that are the tree swallows keep swooping around me and making me smile.
Sometimes the sun appears (April 24, 2024)
A few (hundred) cormorants passing through.
At least there was a nice rainbow after the rain.
May the storms pass leave you safe and whole. May the rains that come wash the troubles from your heart and return you to love.

That April 30th sunrise is so lovely! Warms me like a first sip of hot coffee. Isn't it amazing how the subtle difference in the curves of the neck and head and set of the eyes easily distinguish the female from the male of the blue-winged teals. I noticed her feminine beauty in your earlier picture of her this week. I have little doubt that she will be a good mother! 😊

That warbler! Too cute.
