Eurabiamania 35: Degrowth and Revitalization

Learning to Live Large with Less

Times are tough and they’re going to get tougher. But must we confine ourselves to lives of grinding poverty and misery, or can we learn how to live happier, more fulfilled lives without the latest technological gewgaws?

Kenaz and Ahnaf are joined by two of our most frequent guests, Uncouth Barbarian and Tom Kawczynski. We discuss the inevitable downfall of the West and the scarcity which is to come. But it’s not all doom and gloom, as we also talk how a less glutted culture may also be a more moral and productive one.

Most of my adult life I have been preparing for de-growth. I learned how to build a house, grow more food than I can eat, forage for wild foods and medicinals, fish, hunt, brew fermentables, play the guitar and sing.

I've long said degrowth could be better and healthier for people and the earth, aka revitalization. That was not a popular message in a world beholden to an eternal growth, you can have whatever you want when you want it propaganda.

This podcast is not about doom, it is about what we could build. I hope this is a sign that more people are open to such talk.

I think the farsighted intelligent people have already bailed on our shitshow "civilization." IMO the fesces have already crossed the whirling blades and we are already in the setting up villas stage of Roman collapse.

Agreed 💯

Intelligent, free thinkers. Otherwise most of the “intelligent” people in America are fundamentally retarded, accepting of whatever the “experts” tell them to believe.

That said, intelligent free thinkers building alternative systems are going to attract more positive attention, the more dystopian the regime and modernity becomes.

Agreed. Even as they get more negative press from some areas; in others they'll get followers and people that actually have skin in the game.

I feel sad for people like my mother who are fully bought in on this shitlib dystopia. At the end of the day all I can do is pray for her, and avoid politics around her, or we will never speak again and she is 82, and isn't going to be around forever.

I just dread she is going to put Harris stickers on her mini-van and we will get jumped when she visits me, as people around here are all out of patience with bullshit. 1/2 :-)

Sure I am a little bit of a crank, aren't we all who look towards the future?

Another very worthwhile conversation, gentlemen. We see thing very similarly, which always makes for satisfying reading/listening. The thing is, having lived as an outsider (from mainstream society) for si long (almost 13 years) I naturally meet and socialise with fellow outsiders. You probably don't need me to tell you this, but our numbers are growing rapidly. Beginning with the "covids", and now accelerating as war, economic collapse, CBDC's, etc, approach so folks are seeking - and finding - alternatives. Plus, crucially, I keep meeting younger people not so much running from impending doom, but seeking deeper meaning in life. At least this is true of Europe. I imagine it's similar elsewhere throughout the west.

Thanks once again for an enjoyable listen, whiling away the very hot afternoon hours. Nameste. 🙏

Wonderful to hear that it is a growing movement outside of the US. I’ve heard so from a few people, but always a pleasure to hear so from new faces, as it were!

Then you may be pleased to hear that a fellow substacker joined us here on the mountain after reading one of my posts (Break Free and Starve the Beast, I think.) He’s been with us on our quinta for a couple of months and is now making preparations to take over the care a neighbouring quinta belonging to one of the many elderly people of the village. So now our community is a little bigger, a fellow substackers is free, and Uncle Alvaro has someone to take some of the load off his back. Nice guy too. Head screwed on the right way. Knows what’s coming… 🙃🙂🪷🙏

I am very pleased. Beautiful, beautiful thing. I hope it all works out well for everyone, and have offered prayers for such an outcome. Please keep me appraised of how things develop and go for everyone. God bless.

I will do. And thank you kindly for your prayers. 🙏

Do you mind if I restack this into notes? I wouldn’t want to without your permission.

I'm very pleased you found us, TP. With your "screw the system, we'll do what we need to for ourselves" mindset, you're in good company. Not only that but you're an asset to the village and to our little community.

Nice to have you aboard, good sir! 🙏💚🪷

Legendary! 🤣

That Walt guy maybe is good intentioned but his buy in for the dying digital economy is off the charts. I don't hate him, but he is too cringe for me to take seriously.

What's that Mencken quote, that we are at the point where intelligent men are ready to start spitting on our hands, raising the black flag and start slitting throats? In Minecraft of course!

I can tone it down about the Jews if you guys want to invite me on, lol.

Ahnaf told me that you should unblock him first, and then he could DM you! But that rants about jews are fine. Your on your own for personal protective services though, hah!

I checked not only do I not have him blocked, but I am subscribed to him, maybe he blocked me?

This is what he told me to send to you

I swear I checked, I he isn't blocked.

I don't know then, because that's what it shows him

DOH, I was wrong, it's fixed now. Tell him to DM me. I and that I would be interested in coming on and discussing stuff like post post modern craft guilds, how to live a meaningful life less centered around stuff, an authentic diversity of villages with their own polis as you guys put it, etc, etc.
