Strong Opinions Weakly Held
It's not often I appreciate life phrases to live by (as there seems to be unlimited sources bombarding them on the Internet). But I have come to discover one I approve of:
Have "strong opinions, which are weakly held" -Paul Saffo
As it is an election, it seems that everyone has plenty of strong opinions to go around. It is the latter in which most people fail to possess.
"Bob explained that weak opinions are problematic because people aren’t inspired to develop the best arguments possible for them, or to put forth the energy required to test them. Bob explained that it was just as important, however, to not be too attached to what you believe because, otherwise, it undermines your ability to “see” and “hear” evidence that clashes with your opinions."
It is critical to be open-minded to other perspectives/opinions as they can further help strengthen your opinion or change your opinion based on other perspective/opinion. Don't let your ego or pride get in way of making your best judgement. This is why diversity tend to result in benefits in any environment.
"Strong Opinions Weakly Held" will definitely be something I will continue to live by. This is in addition to "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" or “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
