Round 1 Profile - LaNorris Sellers, QB, South Carolina (2026)
LaNorris Sellers is easily one of the biggest wildcards in the first round of devy drafts. The South Carolina quarterback has the tools to be a game-changer at the position, but he's still an unfinished product. After an impressive 2024 campaign, Sellers was named the National Freshman Offensive Player of the Year by the Football Writers Association of America—an honor previously given to players like Drake Maye and Brock Bowers. That alone speaks to the level of talent we’re dealing with.
At 6'3", 242 pounds, Sellers is built differently. He’s got the size, the mobility, and the arm strength that make evaluators take notice. In his first year as a starter, he put up 2,534 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 65.6% of his passes. But what makes him a true difference-maker is his ability as a runner—674 rushing yards and seven more touchdowns on the ground. His skill set isn’t just dual-threat—it’s game-breaking.
Naturally, the comparisons to Cam Newton have started rolling in. Like Newton, Sellers isn’t just mobile; he’s physical. He breaks tackles, extends plays, and makes defenders regret challenging him in the open field. He also set multiple freshman records at South Carolina, racking up 3,208 total yards and 25 total touchdowns. He played his best football down the stretch, leading the Gamecocks to a six-game winning streak—their longest since 2013—and earning All-SEC honors.
Despite his dominance, Sellers is still flying under the radar compared to some of his peers. Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt, Penn State’s Drew Allar, Florida’s DJ Lagway, and Texas’ Arch Manning are all ranked ahead of him in various devy circles. But that might not last long. South Carolina’s 2025 schedule is stacked with elite quarterback matchups—Garrett Nussmeier (LSU), Cade Klubnik (Clemson), John Mateer (Oklahoma), and Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt). If Sellers holds his own in those games, his stock will skyrocket.
Looking ahead, the 2026 season is pivotal for his NFL trajectory. Right now, he’s got the physical traits that make scouts drool—big arm, elite mobility, and a natural playmaking ability. But his pocket presence, decision-making, and ability to read defenses still need refinement. If he polishes those areas, he could be the best quarterback in college football by season’s end.
The upside is undeniable. If everything clicks, Sellers has legitimate franchise QB potential. But with only one full season under his belt, he’s still a bit of a gamble. Teams looking for a long-term investment could be willing to bet on his ceiling, but he’ll need to accelerate his development over the next two seasons to cement himself as a surefire first-round pick. The tools are there—now it’s about putting it all together.
